League of Women Voters holds naturalization ceremony
About 2,000 petitioners were sworn into citizenship June 27 during a ceremony hosted by the League of Women Voters.
The oath was administered by the Honorable Lynn N. Hughes, U.S. district judge for the Southern District of Texas, at the M. O. Campbell Center, located at 1865 Aldine Bender Road, in Houston.
Each new citizen is immediately eligible to register to vote, and the league was on hand to help the new citizens with registration. Those who did are now able to vote in the Texas primary runoff elections July 31.
The ceremony began at 6 a.m., and the oath took place at 9:30 a.m.
