Slant Film Festival in River Oaks will feature director with Houston ties
The Aurora Picture Show will host its 11th annual Slant Film Festival, which showcases the work of Asian-American filmmakers, on Aug. 11.
The show will feature the award-winning film FATAKRA by Student Academy Award-winner Soham Mehta, who was born in India and raised in Houston. The film will be screened at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 11 at the River Oaks Theater, 2009 West Gray.
As an undergraduate at the University of Austin, Mehta studied theater and computer science. After graduating he worked with technology during the day and directed plays at night. He also founded Shunya, a Houston-based theater troupe that gives voice to the South Asian-American experience.
The festival will begin on Aug. 11. Tickets are $10 for non-members and free to Aurora Picture Show Members.
